WESTOBA CREDIT UNION ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH THE IMMIGRANT CENTRE IN WINNIPEG
Westoba Credit Union is proud to announce their commitment to enter a one-year agreement with the Immigrant Centre in Winnipeg to sponsor the Nutrition Services Program. The partnership will benefit hundreds of newcomers in their journey to settling in Manitoba!
The sponsorship announcement takes place this Saturday, December 15, during the annual newcomer holiday celebration party from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm at the Immigrant Centre at 100 Adelaide St.
The agreement started last month, allowing the Nutrition Services Program to offer a variety of nutrition and food education courses to more than 300 clients each year. The classes run in an on-site commercial kitchen where newcomers practice making healthy meals while learning about eating healthy in Canada.
“We are excited to be partners with the Immigrant Centre Manitoba and help newcomers succeed,” says Jim Rediger, CEO of Westoba. “This partnership is a natural fit, as we believe that a prosperous community is healthy, diverse and inclusive.”
“We are grateful for Westoba’s sponsorship. It will allow us to continue delivering an essential service to newcomers,” says Immigrant Centre’s CEO Jorge Fernandez. “In 2017 alone, the province received around 16,000 immigrants, and our mission is to help them settle.”
The Nutrition Service Program’s primary goal is to equip newcomers with the knowledge to make healthier food choices and address food insecurity – a common issue for many people when they move to Canada.
The partnership with the Immigrant Centre Manitoba is part of Westoba’s community investment strategy, helping to support a vital resource in the community. Together, they will build a healthier, more resilient and supportive community which works collectively to bring success to all its members.
